sawan

The fifth month of the Punjabi calendar is Sawan (ਸਾਵਣ, ساون), known as Mosam-e-Barsat. It falls in July and August (mid-July to mid-August). The temperature is usually very high, but this season also brings heavy rains. These rains may cause floods, which can damage crops and infrastructure, so preventive measures must be adopted before the arrival of this season to avoid any loss.

Monsoon rains are essential for living beings in such hot weather. The humidity level rises in the air, but it feels close during the daytime. These rains play a vital role in the growth of Kharif crops, which need efficient water, e.g. rice, corn, maize, etc.

Despite the high temperatures, the atmosphere is beautiful during this season. Colourful flowers add to the beauty of nature. The lush green fields and flowers catch the attention of poets and artists. It is also the ripening season for mangoes. A variety of fruits can be seen in the markets.
