bhadun

The month that follows Sawan is Bhadun (ਭਾਦੋ, بھادوں) , the sixth month of the desi calendar. It usually falls in August and September (mid-August to mid-September). ਭਾਦੋ (بھادوں) is derived from the ‘Sanskrit’ language and means ‘good luck’ or ‘fortunate’.

The weather during this month is usually unpredictable. The monsoon rains continue till the half of this month with high humidity. If it rains, the temperature remains normal, but it rises very high on sunny days. The days become stifling, and the sun’s heat is unbearable for living beings.

The climate is ideal for seed germination and plants grow very well. The fertility of pests increases due to the higher humidity level. Farmers work hard to protect their crops from diseases using pest control measures. They plant different crops like rice, vegetables, and pulses. It is a transitional period between the monsoon’s departure and autumn’s arrival.

The nine nights of worship, Navratri, a religious festival of the Hindu community, often falls in ਭਾਦੋ (بھادوں). This event is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. • This time is used for repairing tools, preparing oxen, and organizing granaries.

8. Time of Spiritual Practices

  • The humidity slowly decreases, bringing relief from the sticky heat.
