Assu (ਅੱਸੂ, اسو), the next month after Bhadun, is the seventh month of the desi calendar. It falls in September and October (mid-September to mid-October). It is the beginning of fall in South Asia. The leaves’ colour begins to change. The temperature gets moderate, and the humidity level decreases.

In the daytime, the temperature is neither hot nor cool, while nights start to get cooler. It is the best season for people who love moderate weather. Outdoor activities, picnics, and parties can be arranged. The cool air in the morning brings freshness to the environment. Some seasonal plants like Marigolds, Begonia, and Leather petal plants flourish and enhance the beauty of the environment with flowers.

ਅੱਸੂ (اسو) is the month when some birds migrate from Siberia to the plains of Punjab to protect themselves from the cold weather of Siberia. They usually stay beside the rivers, lakes, and water reservoirs.

This is the month to harvest late Kharif crops like pulses, and rice and to prepare the fields for upcoming Rabi crops. The season is also ideal for the early planting of Rabi crops like wheat and barley in some areas.
